Originally built in 1947, Dow Magnesium Hospital was the humble beginning of Brazosport Regional. The 42 bed hospital consisted of three doctors, an operating room, emergency room, and a kitchen and dining room for the staff.
1961: Dow donated the hospital to the community and renamed it as the Community Hospital of Brazosport. Freeport Hospital agreed to merge with the Community Hospital of Brazosport in 1961. Shortly after in 1966, a new four-story, 60,000 square foot facility was built in Freeport.
1984: Dow donated 25 acres of land and a new 165-bed hospital opened in Lake Jackson as Brazosport Memorial Hospital. The new five-story, $30 million hospital offered a full range of services including surgery, imaging, labor and deliver, intensive care and many other services.
1993: Brazosport Regional Cancer Center opened as a full service multidisciplinary cancer center providing top quality radiation and chemotherapy services. They offer preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to adults and geriatrics.
2006: BMH decided to change their name to Brazosport Regional Health System and opened a new 26,000 square foot addition that created a modern space for the Dow Women’s Center, a new diagnostic imaging area with cutting-edge technology and an interventional Cardiac Cath Lab.
2008: Brazosport Regional opens cardiovascular operating suite and performs first open heart surgery in Southern Brazoria County.
2009: Brazosport Regional expands the Cancer Center to include a world class Elekta Synergy® Linear Accelerator.
2010: Brazosport Regional opens new 2,200 square foot Family Medicine Center for the community of Brazoria.
2011: Brazosport Regional opens a 4,500 square foot Family Medicine Center in Lake Jackson, reveals the newly remodeled Main Lobby and installs the Selenia® Dimensions® 2D full field digital mammography system.
Currently, Brazosport Regional includes over 100 board-certified physicians and nearly 600 highly-qualified employees. The 175-bed hospital offers state of the art diagnostic and comprehensive treatment services with care and compassion.
