Lake Jackson, TX – October 26, 2007 – Volunteers at Brazosport Regional Health System came together for their 49th annual fall luncheon on October 23, 2007. In addition to the business meeting held by the auxiliary, attendees learned about new bond referendums at local community college.

The afternoon started with a welcome speech from Auxiliary President, Mary Munroe. Shortly after, special guest Dan Buche, CEO at BRHS, expressed his gratitude to the volunteers for the amount of time put in to make the health system a better place. Buche pointed out that the volunteers truly impact the hospital by substantially off-setting cost for the hospital.

This year, the guest of honor was Dr. John Ray from Brazosport College. Dr. Ray thoroughly explained the master plan for the college and advocated for the new bond referendum. Brazosport College plans to increase their health professions programs, add more four-year baccalaureate degrees, enhance technology offerings, and expand academic and student resources. The implementation of the strategies will cost $70 million, and with the help of the citizens in Brazoria County, the college can meet the ever-changing needs of the community.

Al Guevara, VP of Operations, delivered a motivating speech on why BRHS is supporting the college. “Not only do we have the right care, right here, but we have the right people for the right reasons,” stated Guevara. “The expansion of the health professions program will help the hospital reduce expenses on supplemental staffing. Our partnership with Brazosport College will include a clinical site and financial support for the nursing program start-up costs.”

After Guevara’s speech, the luncheon ended with a few business matters held by the 2007 auxiliary officers. Other special guests of the luncheon were Margaret Steffler, charter member and Nancy Buell, first president (1958) and charter member of the auxilians.
