Offers the Latest in Breast Cancer Screening
 Brazosport Regional Health System is one of the first healthcare providers in the United States to offer breast cancer screening with a Selenia® Dimensions® 2D full field digital mammography system. The Selenia Dimensions 2D system is the latest generation of mammography equipment from Hologic, the world leader in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
One in eight women living in the U.S. will get breast cancer in their lifetime. As the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., early detection of breast cancer results in a five year survival rate of 98 percent. For most women 40 and over, an annual mammogram is the best way of finding breast cancer early. Mammograms play a central part in the early detection of breast cancer because they can detect changes in the breast that may be early signs of cancer, but are too small or subtle to be felt. In fact, over 2.5 million American women with a history of breast cancer are alive today thanks largely to the many new techniques for finding and treating the disease.
Brazosport Regional’s new Selenia Dimensions 2D system offers incredibly clear breast images and an advanced ergonomic design, providing more patient comfort. The Selenia Dimensions 2D system also allows Brazosport Regional the ability to upgrade to 3D Imaging. A new fundraising initiative for women’s health, created by the Brazosport Health Foundation and entitled Power of the Pur$e, will hold its inaugural luncheon on June 5, 2012 to raise funds for the hospital to purchase the 3D imaging software.
Mary Meyers and Cheri McBurnett, Co-Chairs for 2012 Power of the Pur$e, were the first woman to receive their annual mammograms with the new Selenia mammography system at Brazosport Regional. “As Co-Chairs of Power of the Pur$e, we are excited to raise funds for women’s health and in particular the upgrade to 3D Imaging software,” said Cheri McBurnett. “Our Southern Brazoria communities are fortunate Brazosport Regional Health System provides this elevated technology of the Selenia mammogram system and encourage our community women and men to schedule their appointment today!”
