Achieves Diabetic Educator Certification Status
The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced that Lisa R. Baker, RN, BSN, MS, of Brazosport Regional Health System, earned the Certified Diabetes EducatorŽ (CDEŽ) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators. Achieving certification status demonstrates Baker’s distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes.
Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements, including professional practice experience, to be able to take the examination. As a diabetic educator at Brazosport Regional, Baker manages patient education in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Baker has been instrumental in the development of the new Diabetes Outpatient Training Site (DOTS) program at Brazosport Regional, which offers diabetes education to individuals referred by their physician. Diabetes self-management training is typically covered by insurance and Medicare for those patients whose physicians have ordered training. Baker’s extensive background as a Registered Nurse has given her a variety of health experience opportunities in providing patient education.
Baker received her Bachelor’s Degree and Registered Nurse credentials at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and obtained her Master’s Degree in Health Studies from Texas Women’s University. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), which is one indication of professional competency and commitment to continued professional development. Baker is very active in the Southern Brazoria County where she currently serves as the President of Junior Service League of Brazosport.
