Brazosport Regional Welcomes New Neurologist
to the Brazosport Community
 Brazosport Regional Health System welcomes neurologist, Forbes Barnwell, M.D., Ph.D. to their continually growing team of health care specialist. Dr. Barnwell’s practice, Total Neurology of the Gulf Coast, will start accepting patients in early March.
Dr. Barnwell is a board-certified neurologist specializing in epilepsy and seizure disorders. He earned his medical degree and doctorate in neuroscience from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Dr. Barnwell completed his internship, residency in neurology, and a fellowship in neurophysiology at Baylor College of Medicine. Additionally, he holds professional memberships with the American Epilepsy Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of Neurology, and Society for Neuroscience.
For the past six years, Dr. Barnwell has been the assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine where he received a two-year Epilepsy Foundation of America grant and five-year National Institute of Health grant to study basic mechanisms underlying epilepsy.
Total Neurology of the Gulf Coast will evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to adolescent and adult patients with epilepsy, headaches, movement disorders, stroke, multiple sclerosis, neuro-cognitive disorders, dementia, muscle/nerve disorders, spinal cord disorders. He will also perform neurophysiology procedures including nerve conduction study, EMG, (a test that checks the health of the muscles) and an EEG (a test used to detect abnormalities related to electrical activity of the brain.)
