His retirement will become effective on June 30th, 2012. Al Guevara, FACHE, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, has been chosen by the Board of Directors to serve as the new President and CEO.
Recruited by the Health System’s management services firm Quorum Health Resources (QHR), Mr. Buche became President and CEO of Brazosport Regional Health System in June of 2004. Mr. Buche came to BRHS from St. Joseph Health System in Bryan, Texas, where he served as CEO of the St. Joseph Regional Health Center and COO of St. Joseph Health System, a 5 hospital organization.
During his tenure at Brazosport Regional Health System, Mr. Buche successfully led the organization to becoming one of the premiere healthcare systems of its size in the nation. A crowning achievement was having the Health System named as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.
“I truly enjoyed the opportunity to work with some of the best professionals in the healthcare industry at Brazosport Regional. It has been a pleasure to work beside each member of the team and our medical staff as we drove this organization to achieve new standards in quality and patient satisfaction, while also significantly improving the environment of care by remodeling several key areas of the hospital,” said Daniel Buche, FACHE, President and CEO.
Mr. Buche is also very active in numerous local civic organizations. In addition to being a member of the local Rotary, he has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Economic Development Alliance for Brazoria County, and is a Board Member of the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Dow Employee’s Credit Union.
During his career, his professional activities have also reached well beyond the Brazosport area, earning his Fellowship from the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), serving at the state level as a Board Member and Chair of the Catholic Healthcare Association of Texas, multiple advisory committees for the Texas Hospital Association and the Chair of Texas A&M Rural and Public Health Advisory Board.
“Dan’s leadership, vision and unrelenting dedication to improving local healthcare are to be commended and the Board of Directors is tremendously thankful for Mr. Buche’s years of service to the hospital and to our community,” stated Edward Speed, Chairman of the Board of
Brazosport Regional. “I am also proud to announce that the Health System’s Board of Directors appointed a successor during the Board Meeting Wednesday evening, naming Al Guevara to the role of President and CEO upon Mr. Buche’s departure in June.”
Mr. Guevara has served as a key member of the executive team at Brazosport Regional since 2004 and provided operational oversight and strategic improvements to several key areas of the system. He earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from LeTourneau University and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“Mr. Guevara brings a wealth of experience and tremendous energy to this position. It's been said that the true test of a leader is the performance of the institution he leaves behind. On that score, I feel my legacy is in great hands and I will do everything I can to assist the Board and Al in this transition period,” commented Daniel Buche, President and CEO, Brazosport Regional Health System.
