Brazosport Regional Health System Offers
Developmental Screenings for Children
Brazosport Regional Health System is now offering the Denver Developmental Screenings, a widely used assessment of the developmental process for examining children birth to 6 years of age. There development screenings will be held Thursday, August 19 from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM on 5th floor of the Health System.
Developmental screenings are designed to identify problems or delays during normal childhood development. Seventeen percent of children in the U.S. have developmental delays or behavioral problems such as learning disabilities, speech or language problems, autism, mental retardation, emotional/behavior conditions, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Screening tests for developmental or behavioral problems in preschool children allow improved outcomes due to early treatment.
The Denver Developmental Screening will test personal/social skills, fine motor, language skills and gross motor. Less than half of children with problems are identified before starting school. Studies have shown that children who receive early intervention and treatment for developmental disorders are more likely to graduate high school, to hold jobs as adults, and are less likely to commit criminal acts than those who do not receive early intervention.
The developmental screenings will be performed by occupational, physical, and speech therapists at Brazosport Regional and will take approximately 30 minutes. To schedule your child for a free developmental screening, please call 979-285-1822 to make an appointment.
