Brazosport Regional Health System Facilitates Disaster Drill for Community Members

Last week, Brazosport Regional Health System facilitated a disaster drill for community members. Brazosport Regional was recently funded to purchase emergency equipment to better prepare the health system and the community in the event of a national, regional or local disaster.

Representatives from Progressive Care were on-site to coordinate set-up of the portable hospital & decontamination shelter. Along with the Brazosport Regional employees, eleven other companies participated in the drill including Angleton E.M.S., Brazosport College, Clute E.M.S., Homeland Preparedness Project, Lake Jackson Fire Department, Progressive Emergency Products, Surfside Beach E.M.S., Sweeny Community Hospital, Sweeny E.M.S. and Zumro, Inc.

The disaster drill helped participants familiarize themselves with the alternate care site, learn how to wear level C protective garment, and review the equipment and products needed to facilitate operations. Plus, the participants were given the chance to respond to a “mock” chemical spill. Selected participants were able to decontaminate and care for a patient.

A total of 72 representatives from across the county participated in the drill. Thanks to everyone who was in attendance and for their continued effort to help prepare the community for a potential disaster-type situations.
