Brazosport College student, Teresa Rooks, has been named a 2011 recipient of Brazosport Health Foundation’s prestigious Adelaide R. Thorpe Scholarship. The Scholarship was founded in 2007 as a tribute to Mrs. Thorpe in recognition of her 60-plus years of volunteer leadership and philanthropy at Brazosport Regional Health System.
Consideration for this award was given to applicants that attend the nursing program at Brazosport College. Its purpose is to remove financial barriers for nursing students with demonstrated academic ability and a desire to care for those who are injured or ill. Mrs. Rooks will receive $2,500 each semester for tuition, books and living expenses. Following the completion of her nursing education, Mrs. Rook is expected to work at Brazosport Regional Health System for two years.
“The scholarship is a testimony to the great partnership the Health System has with the College. At a time where there is a vast shortage of nursing students, there is no greater need than support for our students in the form of scholarship aid,” said Daniel Buche, CEO/President of Brazosport Regional. “Supporting nursing students ensures that quality healthcare remains in our community.”
Mrs. Rook maintained a 4.0 at Brazosport College in her prerequisite classes and is grateful to have been chosen as the recipient. “I look forward to a career in nursing and am excited about the challenging work ahead. In the end, I know being a nurse will be both fulfilling and rewarding,” said Mrs. Rook.
This award is made possible through community support. Donations to the Adelaide R. Thorpe Scholarship Fund can be made by calling Brazosport Health Foundation at 979-297-6190 or by visiting www.Brazosport-Health-Foundation.org.
