Green Named Chairman-Elect of Statewide
Breast Cancer Collaboration
Patricia Green, Executive Director of Brazosport Health Foundation (BHF), a division of Brazosport Regional Health System, was recently named Chairman-Elect of The Breast Health Collaborative of Texas (BHCT). She will serve in this role for one year before assuming the post of Chairman.
Founded in 2006 as the Houston Breast Health Collaborative, the group quickly grew to include 62 breast health organizations from across the state of Texas. Other participating organizations include The Rose, Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, American Cancer Society, Harris County Hospital District, Conroe Regional Cancer Center, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Members of the collaborative are committed to advocate for positive legislative action in breast health, promote collaboration among breast health providers and maximize new and existing resources.
BHCT co-hosts the annual Breast Health Summit with the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Summit offers a way to combine resources to help the medically-underserved and address gaps in breast health services. BHCT also partners with St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities to provide the Breast Health Resource Mapping Project, a website that offers free health access information for breast health services. For more information on BHCT, visit www.breasthealthtexas.org.
On the legislative front, BHCT was influential in passing Proposition 15 in November 2008, which created a constitutional amendment establishing the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. The Institute conducts cancer research, supports existing cancer research in Texas and is implementing a statewide program for cancer prevention and control.
Ms. Green has been a member of BHCT since its inception through her association with The Mermaid Project, an outreach program managed by BHF that provides free breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment to low-income, uninsured women in Southern Brazoria County.
