Cruise the Sea of Healthy Living
with Brazosport Regional Health System

Are you feeling lost at sea, wondering about the best way to eat well and manage your weight? To start the New Year, Brazosport Regional Health System will feature a community education program to help you maintain a healthy life.

This month, Leah Savoy, MEd, RD, LD will lead the education program and set sail for a healthy adventure, guided by the latest edition of the Dietary Guidelines of Americans and MyPyramid. “We will stop to explore important food groups/essential nutrients for daily intake and weight management tips,” stated Savoy. “I will provide brochures that will include healthy eating tips as well as distribute a goal sheet to track your progress.”

Approximately, 66% of adult Americans are overweight leading to over 300,000 annual premature deaths. Overweight and obesity raises the risk of illness including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Other risk factors include sleep disturbances, breathing problems, and certain types of cancer. You can start reducing your risk of illness as well as increase your lifespan by eating healthy and including physical activity in your daily routine.

The “Cruise the Sea of Healthy Living” seminar will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The program will be at the Brazosport College Community Education Room #114, 120 Circle Way, Ste 2A, (next to the Sonshine Bookstore).
