Brazosport Regional Laboratory Earns
American Association of Blood Bank Accreditation
Brazosport Regional Health System has been granted accreditation by American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), an international non-profit membership organization dedicated to advancing the field of transfusion medicine and related biological therapies.
Accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB assessors and establishes that the level of medical, technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by AABB.
“The AABB’s Accreditation procedures are voluntary,” stated Wendy Mathews, Director of Brazosport Regional’s Laboratory. “Brazosport Regional has sought AABB Accreditation because this program assists facilities around the world in achieving excellence by promoting a level of professional and medical expertise that contributes to quality performance.”
Brazosport Regional Laboratory Services’ main function is to provide a wide-range of laboratory testing on blood and body fluids for the community. With approximately 70% of medical decisions based on lab results, the laboratory ensures precise analysis of specimens with a consistent turn-around-time due to the collaboration of an experienced laboratory medicine staff.
AABB Accreditation is the designation of choice for blood banking, transfusion medicine, blood management, relationship testing, and cellular therapies because it demonstrates an organization’s commitment to advanced learning, continuous improvement and innovation by striving to sustain the highest possible level of patient care.
