Microbiology
Our Microbiology testing includes routine culture and sensitivities, blood cultures, tissue cultures, gram stains and wet mounts. Rapid testing is offered for Strep A, Influenza A/B, RSV, Clostridium difficile and Rotavirus.
- Strep A - Strep A is often found in the throat or on the skin. Strep A bacteria can cause a wide range of infections from sore throats and skin infections to life-threatening invasive disease.
- Influenza A/B (Flu) - The flu is a respiratory infection caused by a number of different viruses. Symptoms of the flu are often worse than those of the common cold.
- Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) - A major cause of respiratory illness in young children.
- Clostridium Difficile - A bacteria that is present in soil, air, water, human, animal feces, and most surfaces. The bacteria don’t create problems until they grow in abnormally large numbers in the intestinal tract of people taking antibiotics or other antimicrobial drugs.
- Rotavirus - This virus mostly infects infants and young children and is the most common cause of diarrhea.
