Special Chemistry
Special Chemistry provides a range of tests including PSA, CEA, vitamin B12, Folate, quantitative HCG, CKMB, troponin, myoglobin, BNP and thyroid testing.
- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) - is a protein produced by the cells of the prostate gland. A PSA test measures the levels of PSA in the blood and is available to detect prostate cancer.
- Carcinomaembryonic Antigen (CEA) - is a protein produced by the cells of the prostate gland. A PSA test measures the levels of PSA in the blood and is available to detect prostate cancer.
- Vitamin B12 - This test measures the amount of Vitamin B12 in the blood. The body needs the B vitamin to make blood cells and to maintain a healthy blood and nervous system.
- Folate - This test may be ordered to help evaluate the general health and nutritional status of a patient who has signs of malnutrition. It is primarily ordered to help diagnose the cause of macrocytic anemia.
- Quantitative Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) Hormone - HCG is sometimes referred to as the pregnancy hormone. The Quantitative HCG test measures the level of HCG in the blood stream. HCG nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. This test can assist the physician in determining the stage of pregnancy.
- Creatine Kinase-MB (CKMB) -This test is for persons who have chest pain to diagnose whether they have had a heart attack. This test can help determine if there was damage to either the heart or the muscles.
- Troponin - This test is for persons who have chest pain to diagnose whether they have had a heart attack or other damage to the heart. These tests are beginning to replace the CKMB, but the doctors still prefer to have additional information from more than one cardiac biomarker.
- Myoglobin - As another cardiac biomarker, this test is used in conjunction with the troponin and other test to help rule out a heart attack.
- B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) - This helps diagnose the presence and severity of heart failure.
