Brazosport Regional Host Webinar for Local Clergy and Chaplains
Brazosport Regional Health System is hosting a webinar for the local clergy and chaplains about working with patients that have dementia on Wednesday, July 14.

Spiritual care providers encounter confused patients in hospital, hospice and outpatient settings and, in most cases, this confusion is due to either delirium or dementia. Most spiritual caregivers have some knowledge about dementia. However, many caregivers may be unfamiliar with delirium even though it is the most common psychiatric disorder in hospital and hospice settings.

The purpose of this presentation is to provide participants with a basic clinical knowledge of both delirium and dementia so that they may better understand how these illnesses impact the patient and family members. In addition, participants will gain an understanding of nurse and physician perspectives regarding delirium and dementia, and learn communication techniques for working more effectively with the patient and the treating team.

The webinar will be presented by David Harrison, M.D., Ph.D. who is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. He currently works as a consulting psychiatrist for the Mental Health Integrative Program, a statewide program for improving mental healthcare in the primary care setting, and also works as an attending psychiatrist on the UW Medical Center.

The webinar will be in classroom C at Brazosport Regional on Wednesday, July 14 from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM. To RSVP, please call 979-285-1822.
