Brazosport Regional Cancer Center Receives Bench Donation
from Breast Cancer Survivor

On April 14 the Cancer Center at Brazosport Regional Health System was the recipient of a Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Honoring the Promise Collection Bench that was created by Kelly Gale Amen Design.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Honoring the Promise Collection allows people to dedicate a functional art piece to those who have been touched by breast cancer. This particular bench was the first bench created in the collection and was a donation from Kathy Tiner, a breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed in 1994 and again in 2004, undergoing chemotherapy at the Brazosport Regional Cancer Center.

“Donations such as this are an excellent way to make a difference in the community,” stated Daniel Buche, CEO/President of Brazosport Regional. “As a non-profit organization, we rely on people like Kathy who give back to the health system; they help improve the hospital as a whole.”

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, with a woman diagnosed with the disease in the US every three minutes. Risk factors of breast cancer include but are not limited to age, race, genetics, family history and personal history of breast cancer, long lifetime exposure to estrogen, radiation exposure, alcohol and obesity.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and Kelly Gale Amen Design have come together to create the opportunity to honor all who have shown the strength, lived the promise and fought the battle against breast cancer. The collection of benches, planers, chairs, and tables are tangible evidence to the fulfillment of the Komen promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

The Cancer Center was added to the hospital in 1993, after a significant contribution from the Brazosport Health Foundation that was made possible through donations from members of the surrounding community. The Cancer Center is dedicated to excellent patient care and provides treatment regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. Drs. Falcon, Pant and Bonnen and the compassionate staff offer individualized, state of the art care close to home. Through the continued support of the community, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the Brazosport Health Foundation, Brazosport Regional will continue to meet the health and medical needs of the community they serve for many years to come.
