FREE Flu Shot Immunizations Sponsored

Lake Jackson, TX – October 29, 2007 – Flu season is right around the corner! Brazosport Regional Health System is offering their annual FREE flu shot immunization clinics for southern Brazoria County. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 36,000 deaths and 200,000 hospitalizations occur each year because of the flu. An annual flu shot is the best way to reduce the chances of acquiring the virus.
The first flu shot clinic will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freeport on Wednesday, November 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The second clinic will take place at the Lake Jackson Civic Center on Thursday, November 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The immunizations will be provided on a first- come, first-serve basis and all participants must be 18 years of age or older. Keep in mind, there is a limited amount of vaccine; therefore, arriving during scheduled hours does not guarantee availability of the vaccine.
“It’s a privilege for us to be able to give free flu shots to our community,” stated Cathy Sbrusch, RN, CIC, Infection Control Practitioner and Coordinator of the Flu Shot Clinics. “It’s important to us that the chronically ill population receive their flu shots every year.”
Although everyone is welcome, people at high risk are priority. High risk people include any adult 65 years or older, health care workers, adults with chronic or immunocompromised conditions, and pregnant women. Pregnant women must have a written note from their obstetrician to receive a flu shot.
