New Hand Therapist Joins
Brazosport Regional Health System

    Lake Jackson, TX – October 18, 2007 – Please welcome Peggy Boineau, OTR, CHT to Brazosport Regional Health System (BRHS). Boineau joined Brazosport’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Services to serve as a Certified Hand Therapist. With the addition of Boineau, BRHS will employ the only two Certified Hand Therapists in Southern Brazoria County. Certified Hand Therapists provide specialized rehabilitation of the arm and hand.

    In 1986, Boineau received her Masters of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. Initially, she worked for 3 years as an Occupational Therapist (OT) in rehab at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and served as the Assistant Chief of the OT Department. She later joined the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and worked as an OT Education Coordinator in Armenia, USSR in a spinal cord rehab hospital. For 6 months, she helped train indigenous therapists in OT skills, and helped rehabilitate people with spinal cord injuries after a destructive earthquake.

    In 1991, Boineau began specializing in the field of Hand Therapy where she worked in several hand therapy clinics across St. Louis, MO. Six years later, she relocated to Texas and for ten years, she was employed as the Director of Occupational Therapy at Sweeny Community Hospital. Most recently, she was the Director of Brazoria Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation in Brazoria, Texas.

    Boineau is an active member of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) and served as a member of their education division for 10 years and received the ASHT Outstanding Committee Member Award in 2006. She was also the President of the Texas Chapter of ASHT for 3 years. She is currently the 2007 Education Division Director of ASHT, where she oversees the development and production for all educational meetings and products offered by ASHT. Most recently, Boineau is the 2007 Vice-President elect for ASHT and will begin her duties in January 2008.

    Boineau has been featured as the cover story in the national OT magazine, and highlighted in Newsline for OT for her work in hand therapy. She was also involved with a 2005 Discovery Channel documentary involving a shark attack survivor.
